A History Prof asks: Can Dick DeVos Lead?

Whittaker ChambersDick, I was just enjoying a quiet evening with Whittaker Chambers, re-reading his incredible book - "Witness", about which Ronald Reagan said, "As long as humanity speaks of virtue and dreams of freedom, the life and writings of Whittaker Chambers will ennoble and inspire." Were truer words ever spoken?

And don't you agree that the letter to his children which begins the book is a masterpiece? Could but you and I write such a letter! And the courtroom scene of his testimony in the Hiss case is one of the most magnificent moments to have ever taken place in modern American history. I was about to devour that scene for the third wonderful time when there came a loud knocking at my door.

As I began to crack the door, it was quickly pushed full open and my history loving mate strode swiftly through the entryway somewhat wild-eyed and announced, "I'm back!" Back for more agitation, he meant.

He bade me over to my computer and pointed me to two very interesting websites: orrinwoodward.blogharbor.com and the-iaa.blogspot.com. Interesting yes, but disturbing as well. Then he asked, "Where's Dick's new book?" I wasn't sure what he was asking and told him so.

Then he let fly. "Look Sam, I know how much you want Dick DeVos to succeed but let's face it, he doesn't stand a snowball's chance in hell of beating the kind of intellect and hunger demonstrated by Orrin Woodward! Does he even know that Orrin's book, Launching a Leadership Revolution is #12 on the New York Times Bestseller list? I doubt it. And, I bet he hasn't read it either. But Sam, he desperately needs to!

What Dick does know is that he couldn't even hold his own against Jennifer Granholm and as time goes by, it becomes more clear to me why the people of Michigan said 'We don't trust you!' to him last year."
He said the words 'Jennifer Granholm' as if he were going to be violently ill.

"And look Sam, Dick is clearly afraid to lead here. You've been quite rightly encouraging him to step up to the plate, but he likes sitting on the bench! And that's perfectly OK. Just don't expect him to be able to lead when the time comes. No practice! And don't tell me that running his daddy's company was leading. Uh uh! He and Bill Ford have more in common than ribbons and bows! While Orrin masterfully paints a picture of true leadership and so many others are taking up the fight for their freedom by laying out the truth for the common man, Dick is content to do nothing but spend his daddy's money."

I began to complain, but he was not to be denied the floor. "It doesn't take a genius to read between the lines on Orrin's site and notice the chasm between a real leader like Robert E. Lee and your buddy Dick DeVos! These websites and Orrin are nailing Dick and his dad just by quoting history!"

Orrin quotes from great books and the bloggers quote from Dick's idiot General Counsel and his ragamuffin band of lawyer wannabes! Mike Mohr has an intellect rivaled only by that of a shed full of garden tools. I mean, every move he makes just serves to further embarrass your buddy!

For example, they accused the Team of 'forum shopping' because IBOs filed TROs in the county in which they lived and worked, which makes perfect sense and isn't forum shopping at all! And NOW, Quixtar IS forum shopping because they don't like the rulings they're getting in Texas! Talk about hypocritical! But then, we ARE talking about Quixtar lawyers, aren't we?! They couldn't pour water out of a boot with the instructions printed on the heel."

I was in total agreement with him there Dick!

"So, where's Dick's website Sam? Where does Dick lay out his heart to the American public like Orrin has done in his book and continues to do, daily, at orrinwoodward.blogharbor.com?" Before I could answer, he just said "Wait."

And it occured to me, that is exactly what I'm doing.
